Beyond the clouds and the harps

For thousands of years, humanity has harboured a persistent, nagging feeling that this world is not the whole story. Whether it is the fear of death, the meaning of suffering, the longing for justice or the yearning for a home we have never visited, deep down we know there is more. But what actually happens from the moment we close our eyes for the last time?

In AFTERLIFE, you are invited to look beyond the hackneyed myths about floating on clouds or playing the harp in an ethereal void. This book lifts a corner of the veil on the ‘Solid Reality’ of eternity. It is not a book about abstract theology; it is a clear, razor-sharp map of the future.

Grounded firmly in Scripture and told in a warm, down-to-earth voice, AFTERLIFE walks with you — like a trusted guide — through what happens after the last breath, all the way to the New Heaven and New Earth.

What will you discover?

In AFTERLIFE, Peter Briscoe addresses the question that, sooner or later, preoccupies every Christian: what happens to a believer after death? The author not only describes the state of the Christian immediately after death but also focuses on the ultimate eternal destiny of those who have fallen asleep in faith in the Lord Jesus.

Briscoe writes in a clear and accessible style and underpins his view with biblical evidence. He discusses topics such as life after death, the resurrection, the new creation and eternal fellowship with Christ. In doing so, he manages to explain complex theological themes in an understandable way. As a result, the book is suitable for both experienced readers and those engaging with this subject for the first time.

A striking feature of the book is that the author regularly uses concepts from computer science to clarify spiritual realities. This original approach gives old biblical themes a contemporary perspective and is particularly likely to appeal to young people.

Some readers might perhaps wish for greater depth or more extensive substantiation, but its accessibility is precisely one of the book’s strengths.

The book’s great strength lies in the fact that it not only provides information but also inspires hope and anticipation. The discussion of the eternal destiny of believers encourages us to look forward with confidence to the future that God has promised.

All in all, AFTERLIFE is a valuable and encouraging book for anyone who wants to know more about what the Bible teaches regarding life after death and the eternal future of believers. I can wholeheartedly recommend it.

My 5 Big Takeaways

01

This world isn’t the final reality

Earthly life is a preview, not the finished version. Heaven is where reality becomes most alive — not a thin, ghostly place.

02

Paradise isn’t the final stop

Paradise is real, conscious and blessed — but it’s a place of rest on the way to resurrection, not the end of the story.

03

Resurrection means a body, not a ghost

No floating spirits. God’s promise is a transformed, healed body — still recognisably you, just no longer limited.

04

Our choices now matter eternally

Grace saves us, but ordinary faithfulness — unnoticed now — is never wasted in the sight of Christ.

05

Suffering gets redeemed, not erased

Eternity doesn’t pretend the past never happened. God transforms what was broken into something glorious.
